Trump said he thinks Democrats will be willing to deal as the individual insurance market further erodes.

“We’re not gonna own it,” he said. “I’m not gonna own it. I can tell you, the Republicans are not gonna own it. We’ll let Obamacare fail, and then the Democrats are gonna come to us, and they’re gonna say, ‘How do we fix it? How do we fix it?’ Or, ‘How do we come up with a new plan?'”

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) sought to blame premium hikes and fleeing insurance companies on Trump and his “cynical game” of the certainty of dying insurance markets.

“We Democrats believe that the time has finally come for our Republican colleagues to take us up on our offer of working together to improve the health care system rather than sabotage it,” he said.

Conservatives, however, worry that a bipartisan effort would lead to taxpayer bailouts for insurance companies.

“That puts the ownership on Republicans … Republicans become just as responsible for Obamacare as Democrats,” said Slobodien, of Club for Growth.
