Donald Trump has emerged from the Labor Day weekend leading a new CNN poll by 2 points. The poll, the first CNN/ORC survey in which Trump leads Clinton, also found a staggering 15-point lead for Trump over Hillary Clinton on the issue of trustworthiness (50 percent to 35 percent).

The CNN poll shows Trump leading with 45 percent of voters, to Hillary Clinton’s 43 percent, in a four-way race among likely voters.

The CNN poll shows Trump winning independents by 20 points, 49 to 29, in a four-way race. And he’s ahead of Clinton by 15 points on trustworthiness.

The CNN poll also shows Trump winning independents by 20 points, 49 to 29, in a four-way race. By comparison, Republican Mitt Romney only won independents in the 2012 election by 5 points.

Picking apart the poll, there is little bad news for Trump. He is leading on the two top issues of the day: the economy and terrorism.

Fifty-six percent trust Trump on the economy versus 41 percent for Clinton. Fifty-one percent trust Trump on terrorism, compared to 45 percent for Clinton.

On foreign policy, CNN found 56 percent trust Hillary Clinton to Trump’s 40 percent.

And on immigration, it’s a tie — 49 percent favor Clinton, 47 percent support Trump.

Trump is also leading on trust. CNN reports Trump’s “largest edge” is as the more honest and trustworthy of the two major candidates, with 50 percent of those polled saying Trump is more honest and trustworthy. Just 35 percent say that about Clinton.

Trump, as with many Republicans of the past, is behind with women. But Trump is leading with married women.

CNN reports that women break for Clinton 53 percent to 38 percent. That’s largely due to the fact that 73 percent of unmarried women back Clinton. Only 36 percent of married women support Clinton.

The gender gap works the other way for Trump. Men support Trump by 54 percent to 32 percent.

Clinton also has a huge advantage among voters under 45: 54 percent to 29 percent.

But again, Trump has an advantage with the other side: Older voters are more likely to back Trump, 54 percent to 39 percent.

A key test of polls before Election Day is usually a measure of voter enthusiasm. The poll finds voters are less excited about this year’s contest than past contests.

But the lack of enthusiasm “spikes” among Clinton supporters, CNN reports. Trump supporters are ready to roll.

Indeed, the numbers are flipped, with a majority of Trump voters more enthused about this year’s election. A majority of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are not enthused. Fifty-six percent of Trump’s supporters say they are more excited about this year’s election than past elections. But 55 percent of Hillary Clinton’s supporters “say they’re less excited about voting this year than usual.”
