Trump: ‘There’s So Much Work to Be Done’

President Donald Trump doubled down on his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises because “there’s so much work to be done” to turn the country around during an interview Sunday with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.

O’Reilly noted that the 45th president has had a whirlwind first two weeks in office filled with a slew of executive orders, important meetings, and his nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. In response, Trump laid out his plans for the rest of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 and reaffirmed his commitment to campaign pledges. When O’Reilly asked Trump if he ever says to himself, “I can’t believe I’m here” or “I cannot believe that I am the president of the United States,” Trump admitted that he still does.

“It’s like a surreal experience in a certain way, but you have to get over it, because there’s so much work to be done, whether it’s jobs or other nations that truly hate us, you have to get over it.”

“Well, I must tell you, the other day I walked into the main entrance of the White House and I said to myself, ‘This is sort of amazing,'” Trump told O’Reilly in the interview that aired Sunday on Fox News. “Or you walk into Air Force One. It’s like a surreal experience in a certain way, but you have to get over it, because there’s so much work to be done, whether it’s jobs or other nations that truly hate us, you have to get over it.”

Trump told O’Reilly that the American people can expect the swift action to continue.

When O’Reilly asked the president if Americans can expect a tax cut in 2017, Trump said, “I think so, yes. And I think that before the end of the year I would like to say yes.”

Americans can also expect “a new healthcare plan rolled out by the Trump administration” by early 2018, Trump said.

“Yes, in the process and maybe it’ll take ’til sometime into next year but we’re certainly going to be in the process. Very complicated; Obamacare is a disaster,” Trump said. “You have to remember Obamacare doesn’t work so we are putting in a wonderful plan. It statutorily takes a while to get. We’re going to be putting it in fairly soon, I think that — yes, I would like to say by the end of the year at least the rudiments but we should have something within the year and the following year.”

The president also announced Vice President Mike Pence will lead a commission investigating Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2016 elections.

“You take a look at the registration, you have illegals, you have dead people … it’s really a bad situation,” Trump told O’Reilly. “I’m going to set up a commission, to be headed by Vice President Mike Pence, and we’re going to look at it very, very carefully.”

Despite the fact that Trump’s executive order pausing U.S. entry from seven terrorism-compromised countries suffered a setback when a Washington State judge placed it on hold Friday, Trump said that he fully intends to keep his promise to the American people by boosting national security measures.

A large portion of Trump’s domestic policy platform during his campaign involved cracking down on illegal immigration and boosting border security and enforcement. For those U.S. cities who have refused to obey Trump’s executive order abolishing “sanctuary city” policies, Trump reaffirmed there would be severe consequences.

“I don’t want to defund the state,” Trump said. “I don’t want to defund anybody. I want to give them the money they need to properly operate as a city or a state. If they’re going to have sanctuary cities, we may have to do that. Certainly that would be a weapon.”

“Well I think it’s ridiculous. Sanctuary cities, as you know I’m very much opposed to sanctuary cities. They breed crime, there’s a lot of problems. We have to — well, defund — we give tremendous amounts of money to California,” Trump added. “California, in many ways, is out of control as you know. Obviously the voters agree or otherwise they wouldn’t have voted for me.”
