Two of Donald Trump’s biggest fans and surrogates won’t be able to vote for him in the New York Primary on April 19 — his son and daughter.

Both Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump missed the Oct. 9 deadline to switch their party affiliation from “unaffiliated” to “Republican” in the Empire State. Records from the New York State Board of Elections show that out of all Trump’s children, only Donald Trump Jr. is a registered Republican.

The GOP front-runner was pressed on the matter in an interview on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.”

“They had a long time to register, and they were unaware of the rules and they didn’t register in time,” Trump said. “So they feel very, very guilty. They feel very guilty, but it’s fine.”

Trump is expected to win the New York Republican primary on April 19. The most recent poll from Fox News has Trump at 54 percent to Kasich’s 22 percent and Cruz’s 15 percent.

But the New York State primary is a closed primary which means that voters need to be registered with a party in order to be able to vote. While the two votes from his son and daughter may not matter in the primary, it is a huge oversight for the campaign — the optics are certainly not great. This seems to play into the larger narrative though that the Trump campaign is extremely unorganized and lacks an understanding of the rules.

What’s more, Ivanka and Eric have a history of donating to Democratic campaigns. According to campaign finance reports Eric has contributed over $138,000 to Democratic candidates. Ivanka has donated to both Democrats and Republicans totaling over $240,000, but less than ten percent of her donations were to Republicans. Her contributions even included one to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid.

Ivanka and Eric have been aggressively hitting the campaign trail for their father encouraging thousands of Americans to head to the polls to vote for their dad, but it seems like they won’t be able to heed their own advice.
