It’s official: Donald Trump earned a sizable bump in the polls coming out of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and has now firmly taken the 2016 lead.

Trump leads Hillary Clinton in three new national polls from CNN/ORC, the LA Times/USC, and CBS. Overall, the GOP nominee has surpassed Clinton in the widely cited polling average from RealClearPolitics.

The CNN/ORC poll  found 68 percent of voters find Clinton to be untrustworthy, a new high for her among CNN surveys.

Trump’s commanding speech on returning the nation to greatness, restoring law and order, and fixing America’s problems with the strength and efficiency that he alone possesses was well-received by those who watched. An instant poll conducted by CNN found 56 percent of viewers were more likely to vote for Trump after watching and 75 percent had a favorable impression of the speech.

The full CNN/ORC poll released on Monday also found a significant improvement in the number of people who see the GOP as united. Despite a media frenzy of the lack of an endorsement from Sen. Ted Cruz, the number of respondents who see the party as united is now at 24 percent — up from 16 percent in a pre-convention survey.

While voters take a second look at Trump’s platform to revitalize the nation and restore safety, and Republicans increasingly coalesce behind their nominee, the Democratic Party has descended into chaos ahead of its convention.

A series of emails leaked over the weekend by hackers revealed the Democratic National Committee and its chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, actively worked to rig media coverage, the Democratic primary contests, and primary debates to benefit Clinton.

The leak triggered the resignation of Wasserman Shultz as outrage swirled on the Left and plunged the Democratic National Convention into uncertainty, just as it was getting off the ground.

The new scandal will likely only increase public perceptions of Clinton as distrustful.

The CNN/ORC poll  found 68 percent of voters find Clinton to be untrustworthy, a new high for her among CNN surveys.

According to RealClearPolitics, Trump has now lead the last five national polls, even when Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are included.

What sort of positive bump the Democratic National Convention can deliver for Clinton remains to be seen, but the chaos engulfing the party on day one is not a promising indicator.
