The Donald Trump campaign released a new television ad on Monday that bashes Hillary Clinton for her “basket of deplorables comment” made at a glitzy fundraiser Friday in New York.

“You know, just to be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables,'” Clinton said Friday. “They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up,” Clinton said. “He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people — now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.”

The Trump campaign unleashed a fiery rebuke on Monday.

“Speaking to wealthy donors, Hillary Clinton called tens of millions of Americans ‘deplorable,’” the ad says before quoting Clinton. “People like you, you and you, ‘deplorable.’ You know what’s deplorable? Hillary Clinton viciously demonizing hard-working people like you.”

“‘Deplorable’ is a response to the incredibly offensive comments Hillary Clinton made last Friday in front of reporters and her wealthy donor friends, and serves as a call to action for the tens of millions of hard-working Americans she viciously demonized — to stand united against the Clinton-led rigged Washington system,” Trump communications director Jason Miller said in a statement.

“These highly offensive and divisive comments reveal the contempt and disgust for everyday Americans that Hillary Clinton has hoped to hide by avoiding the press and running the least-transparent campaign in modern political history.”

The ad is set to air in the battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida.
