Popular Fox News anchor Heather Nauert has reportedly been hired as a spokeswoman for the State Department.

Although the hire has not been announced formally by the administration, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed the move to Bloomberg Politics Saturday. Nauert, a co-host on “Fox & Friends” — considered one of President Donald Trump’s favorite cable news programs — will be tasked with maintaining the State Department’s public image.

Many of Nauert’s current and former cable news colleagues took to Twitter to congratulate her on the news.

“Congratulations to my good friend @HeatherNauert!” Heather Childers, a co-host for “Fox & Friends First,” tweeted Saturday.

“Congrats to my former colleague @HeatherNauert,” former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren tweeted Monday. Van Susteren now hosts MSNBC’s “For the Record with Greta.”

Trump once partially credited frequent appearances on “Fox & Friends” for helping start and maintain his political rise during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“You have treated me very fairly and I appreciate it,” Trump told the hosts of “Fox & Friends” during an interview Feb. 28. “I’ve been a friend of your show for a long time … Remember those call-ins, right?” Trump asked. “Maybe without those call-ins, somebody else is sitting here.”

The State Department has come under fire for temporarily suspending daily press briefings just before Trump’s inauguration, although the department resumed its briefings Tuesday with acting spokesman Mark Toner. Nauert’s presence as full-time spokeswoman is expected to help the Cabinet-level department find its PR footing.

Nauert, who originally joined Fox News in 1998, will become the cable network’s second employee to join the Trump administration. Fox News producer Jonathan Wachtel was named director of communications and the spokesman at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.
