Supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders now have even more proof of the contempt with which they are held by the Clinton camp.

Former executive director of the Democratic National Committee and Clinton supporter Mark Siegel called Bernie Sanders supporters “self-righteous ideologues” in an email sent to Clinton campaign and leaked by WikiLeaks on Wednesday.

“Frankly, DNC members don’t really represent constituencies anyway … I should know. I served on the DNC first as Executive Director and then as an elected member for 10 years.”

“It’s critical that all delegates, especially those representing losing candidates, emerge from the convention feeling that they have won something, achieved something tangible. I think this is terribly important especially with people like Bernie’s sometimes self-righteous ideologues,” Siegel writes. “We want them to go home happy and enthusiastic in working their asses off for Hillary.”

In order to ensure Sanders’ legion of supporters went home happy and willing to work for Clinton, Siegel suggested hoodwinking them into believing they managed to actually achieve something. “They have to be given something that they can claim as a singular success,” he says.

“Bernie and his people have been b****ing [asterisks added] about super delegates and the huge percentage that have come out for Hillary … why not throw Bernie a bone and reduce the super delegates in the future to the original draft of members of the House and Senate,” Siegel writes.

“If we ‘give’ Bernie this in the Convention’s rules committee, his people will think they’ve ‘won’ something from the Party Establishment. And it functionally doesn’t make any difference anyway. They win. We don’t lose,” Siegel writes.

If the progressives who make up a large part of the Democratic base are shocked by this and the general chicanery that occurred throughout the Democratic primary campaign, they shouldn’t be, according to Siegel.

“Frankly, DNC members don’t really represent constituencies anyway,” says Siegel. “I should know. I served on the DNC first as Executive Director and then as an elected member for 10 years.”
