The date June 6, 1944, will always be significant.

It marks the day in history that nearly 160,000 American, British, and Canadian forces landed on five beaches on the heavily guarded coast of France’s Normandy region during World War II — one of the largest amphibious military assaults ever.

That’s right: Seventy-five years ago this week, Operation Overload launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe.

Today, D-Day remains one of the most successful military invasions ever.
