Expressing dismay over the $1.3 trillion spending bill dropped in his lap overnight, President Donald Trump on Friday mulled rejecting it.

“I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded,” the president tweeted.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) eagerly cheered Trump on as the Kentucky senator read through the night the measure’s 2,232 pages, which he called a “crumni-bus” that no senator had time to read.

“I agree @realDonaldTrump should veto this sad excuse for legislation because it’s $1.3 trillion in spending that (almost) no one read,” he tweeted.

Paul pointed to page 376, which contains language for border security.

“I found it! I found it! Border security, what President Trump wanted!” he tweeted.

Then he added, “No … wait a minute section says Defense can spend what funds it determines to enhance the border security of Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia.”

Other provisions he highlighted is the “ever wasteful” $6 billion for the National Science Foundation.

“Remember the $350,000 NSF spent asking if Japanese quail are more sexually promiscuous on cocaine?” he asked.

Other details Paul highlighted include:

  • $1 million for the Cultural Antiquities Task Force
  • $6.25 million for the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation
  • $12 million for countering state disinformation and pressure
  • $5 million for Vietnam Education Foundation grants
  • $15 million for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to promote international higher education between universities
  • $2.696 billion for disaster assistance — to foreign countries

Other beneficiaries of American largess include the World Meteorological Organization (1 million), international religious freedom ($25 million), and disadvantaged Egyptian students ($10 million).

The bill distributes $10 million for women law enforcement officers in Afghanistan, $15 million for development assistance to China, $12 million in military aid to Vietnam, and millions more dollars for scholarships in the Middle East.

The bill also spends $218 million for promoting democracy development in Europe.

Paul quipped, “Yep … the birthplace of democracy needs promoting.”

Paul noted that the bill spends $961 million to destroy chemical weapons.

“Who was it, exactly, who convinced our government to pay billions to develop weapons we now find deplorable?” he asked.

The General Services Administration, which manages office space for the federal government, gets $9 billion. Paul noted that the federal government spends $1.7 billion a year to maintain 770,000 empty buildings while continuing to buy new properties.

Paul told Fox News host Tucker Carlson Thursday night that funding border defenses in foreign countries, while largely stiffing Trump on his number-one priority at home, is a stunning slap in the face.

“We have border security money in the Middle East but no border security money in the U.S.,” he said.

Paul said the bill would result in a trillion-dollar deficit.

“This could have been written by President Obama and liberal Democrats,” he told Carlson.
