The FBI is reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server after obtaining new pertinent information, suggesting the Democratic nominee for president may be under criminal investigation on Election Day.

“In previous congressional testimony, I referred to the fact that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had completed its investigation of former Secretary Clinton’s personal email server. Due to recent developments, I am writing to supplement my previous testimony,” FBI director James Comey wrote in an official letter published Friday.

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he continued.

“FBI Dir just informed me, ‘The FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.’ Case reopened,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) tweeted on Friday morning, confirming the reopened investigation.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump pounced on the news.

“Hillary Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, just minutes after the news first broke. “We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office.”

Trump commended the FBI and Department of Justice for showing the courage to right the “horrible mistake” of closing the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server without an indictment recommendation.

No further information has yet been released — nor has there been any confirmation of what these new emails are or where they come from. In the past week, both WikiLeaks and Citizens United have released Clinton emails that may or may not have been in the possession of FBI investigators.

With less than two weeks until Election Day, Friday’s news is sure to rock a Clinton campaign already troubled by scandal, and could even turn out to be a significant blow to Clinton’s election prospects.

“Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees about our efforts in light of my previous testimony,” Comey concluded in his letter.
