President Obama, in his latest national lecture, scolded anyone who dares suggest the safety and security of the American people is more important than multiculturalism.

In the past 10 years, rifles like the AR-15 have been used in 14 public mass shootings in America. In the past 10 days Muslims have carried out 79 terrorist attacks.

“We now have proposals from the presumptive Republican nominee for president of the United States to bar all Muslims from immigrating to America. We hear language that singles out immigrants and suggests entire religious communities are complicit in violence,” he said Tuesday.

The message was clear. Muslim feelings are more important than American lives. The president was visibly upset at the thought that someone somewhere might actually believe that keeping Americans safe from harm is more important than the progressive project to change the demographic makeup of the country by importing legions of non-white people — regardless of their anti-democratic and non-liberal values.

“Where does this stop?” Obama said. “The Orlando killer, one of the San Bernardino killers, the Fort Hood killer — they were all U.S. citizens. Are we going to start treating all Muslim Americans differently? Are we going to start subjecting them to special surveillance? Are we going to start discriminating against them because of their faith?”

Of course, to anyone who doesn’t wish his last moments on earth to consist of the sound of the Takbir followed by an explosion or gunshot, the answer to Obama’s self-righteous rhetorical question is yes, common sense does compel a different approach to potentially radicalized communities.

But to do so, according to Obama, would betray “the very values America stands for.” That Obama could make such an assertion while simultaneously refusing to acknowledge in any way the unique threat of Islamic terrorism to those values — let alone the fact that the vast majority of Muslims hold views entirely antithetical to those values — is telling.

At this point it is clear that radical Islam poses an existential threat to America and the West, but Obama is suggesting we ignore that fact because to do so would betray “the very things we are trying to protect — the pluralism and the openness, our rule of law, our civil liberties.”

Of course, those are also the very same things that multiple polls suggest most Muslims would abandon if given half the chance. It is also stunning to hear the executive-action-issuing, Congress-circumventing, immigration-law-violating Obama speak of protecting the rule of law.

To monitor the activities of those most likely to be recruited to seditious activity is not intolerance, but self-preservation. The U.S. government has in its past monitored Confederate sympathizers, Nazi sympathizers, Communists, far-left anti-war groups, and far-right militia groups — all American citizens.

And while Obama — ever the liberal professor — may think some of those incidents were “a shameful part of our history,” those with a modicum of appreciation for logic or historical understanding realize such actions are necessary to preserve the safety and security of all Americans.

Obama also insisted that monitoring the Islamic community or halting temporarily Muslim immigration would “make it a lot easier to radicalize people here in America.” Perhaps Obama would do well to look at the European model as practiced in countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Belgium.

There, they give in to practically every Muslim social demand, allow unfettered Muslim immigration, effectively criminalize any criticism of Islam, and take great pains to indoctrinate their citizens of the supposed wonders of “diversity.” Those countries are also hotbeds of Islamic radicalism and a rich and well-tapped source of ISIS fighters.

Less than 24 hours after the Jihadist massacre in Orlando, a radicalized Muslim murdered a French policeman in the latest tragedy of Islamist violence to strike that particularly aggrieved nation.

Yet the European path is the one which Obama wishes the country would follow, and he would have us believe doing so will keep us safer than stopping Muslim refugees from violent hotbeds from entering the country and monitoring the ones who are already here.

The rank hypocrisy of Obama’s speech was glaring. He called on the country to “reinstate the assault weapons plan” and “make it harder for terrorists to use these weapons to kill us,” yet he would do nothing to make it harder for the terrorists to come here.

Indeed, Obama’s entire gun-control argument can be boiled down to the idea that because some semi-automatic rifles are sometimes used to murder innocent people, all of them should be heavily restricted to all people all of the time. Pity he doesn’t apply the same logic to Muslim immigration.

In the past 10 years, semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 have been used in 14 public mass shootings in America. In the past 10 days Muslims have carried out 79 terrorist attacks.
