In a possible attempt to shore up the Democratic Party’s anti-terror credentials — and by association, Hillary Clinton’s — Obama has apparently ordered fresh airstrikes against ISIS in Libya.

On Monday, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes against ISIS targets in Sirte, Libya, reportedly at the behest of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).

Hillary Clinton’s disastrous post-intervention planning almost single-handedly turned the once-stable country into a terrorist theme park.

Despite claims that the GNA requested the strikes, the timing is suspiciously convenient for Obama and the Democrats, whose desperate attempts to portray themselves as the patriotic party — by deciding to suddenly care about Russia — do not appear to be working as well as they had hoped.

Indeed, President Obama and the Libyan prime minister “had authorized the strikes to begin earlier, but held off because of a recent fatal incident involving French Special Forces,” according to CBS.

But this reasoning doesn’t quite stand up to scrutiny. Not only was that “recent” incident nearly two weeks ago, but it doesn’t quite follow that the (reportedly) accidental deaths of on-the-ground French special forces personnel in a helicopter crash would have any significant impact on public opinion regarding U.S. airstrikes.

U.S. soldiers already fear Obama is going to send them underprepared into harm’s way in Mosul, Iraq, just to help Clinton in the election — so it wouldn’t exactly be shocking if Obama’s decision to bomb Sirte was motivated by the fast-approaching election.

“There is tremendous concern that Washington is going to press for a Mosul operation to commence before the November election,” Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael D. Barbero told The Washington Times on Sunday. “The concern is, will the conditions be set on the ground by then? And I don’t think so,” Barbero said.

But if Obama truly is escalating U.S. involvement in Libya merely to buttress the image of the Democrats and Clinton as capable wartime leaders, it is a shortsighted strategy that could fail spectacularly.

The more current events-savvy segments of the voting population will surely remember that the only reason U.S. planes need to bomb ISIS forces in Libya in the first place is because Hillary Clinton’s disastrous post-intervention planning almost single-handedly turned the once-stable country into a terrorist theme park.

It will also no doubt remind the nation of Clinton’s disastrous handling of the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, a presence that may have only existed due to the Obama administration’s enthusiastic desire to run guns to the “moderate rebel forces” in Syria — forces that would soon be known the world over as ISIS.

And thanks to Julian Assange’s seemingly personal vendetta against the Clinton machine, Clinton will not be able to deny any of it on the campaign trail if there is an email chain to hold her to the truth.

“The absolutely disastrous intervention in Libya … which led to the occupation of ISIS of large segments of that country, weapons flows going over to Syria — being pushed by Hillary Clinton — into jihadists within Syria, including ISIS, that’s there in those emails,” Assange said in an interview shortly following their release.

“There’s more than 1,700 emails in Hillary Clinton’s collection, that we have released, just about Libya alone.” Now, thanks to renewed U.S. combat involvement in Libya, voters may wish to take a second look at those emails.
