After watching Joe Biden’s blustery, emotional performance at the Democratic National Convention, I thought, Trump really does have a good chance of winning in November.

Do they not let him see any of the economic numbers in his office across the street from the White House?

Biden, who’s had a government job nearly all his life and spent most of his career as a back-bencher, said that Trump isn’t qualified to be president.

“No major party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or has been less prepared to deal with our national security. We cannot elect a man who exploits our fear of ISIS and other terrorists, who has no plan … a man who embraces the tactics of our enemies: torture, religious intolerance,” Biden said.

And Biden did his full “Middle-Class Joe” act for the faithful in Philly, using the word “malarkey” so many times listeners may have felt transported back to the 1950s.

“Not only do we have the largest economy in the world, we have the strongest economy in the world. We have the most productive workers in the world. And given a fair shot, given a fair chance, Americans have never, ever, ever, ever, ever let the country down. Never!” said Biden, whipping himself into a frenzy. “It’s never, never, never been a good bet to bet against America.”

Why don’t they send him to Detroit, and let him tell the folks there about how America never fails?

Do they not let him see any of the economic numbers in his office across the street from the White House? Does he not realize that terrorists are killing people all over the world? He talks like a man who lives in some imaginary world from the 1950’s – which, in a very real sense, he does.

Why don’t they send him to the coal mines in West Virginia, and have him tell those people who America never fails?

Why don’t they send him to the South China Sea, and let him tell the Chinese that America never fails?

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

Why don’t they send him to the families of the soldiers who can’t get health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and let him tell them that America never fails?

Why don’t they send him to the people who trusted us in Iraq and Afghanistan, and let him tell them that America never fails?

Why don’t they send him to the Fortune 500 executives who are offshoring and bringing in immigrants on H-1B visas, and tell them that America never fails?

It’s an insult to all the pain that so many Americans have suffered over the last 15 years to send out an amiable blowhard who has been in public office since the early 1970s, and have him go on and on about how Americans never fail. Trump’s not saying that Americans fail; he’s saying that Americans have been failed by their government. Trump never told the middle class “you’re fired!” He wants to fire the politicians who pushed the policies that got the middle class fired.

Joe Biden knows this. Barack Obama knows this. They also know Trump was being sarcastic when he said he hoped the Russians have Hillary’s 30,000 missing emails.

Delivering a speech filled with mostly forced emotion, horrid clichés, and false characterizations, Joe Biden merely confirmed that this administration has no solutions. After almost eight years in office, they are reverting back to the same tired, empty sloganeering that helped launch them into power.

“Yes we can?”

No, you couldn’t.
