Looking to shore up his support with female voters, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump sent two surrogates to Berwyn, Pennsylvania, to speak to voters in the crucial swing state.

The wife of the GOP nominee, Melania Trump, gave a short 15-minute speech to the crowd in Berwyn, a small town south of King of Prussia. Her themes included fighting online bullying, especially aimed at children; fighting poverty; and expanding prosperity.

“We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other.”

The speech was aimed directly at critical female voters in the large swing state, whom Trump has been fighting to attract.

Melania Trump was introduced by Karen Pence, the first lady of Indiana and the wife of Gov. Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate.

Karen Pence told the crowd that she knew she would like Melania Trump right away, when Melania liked Pence’s story of encouraging the Pence children to discuss issues and disagree sometimes.

Melania Trump said children’s issues are foremost in her mind. She told the Berwyn crowd that children are often targeted for the wrong kind of disagreement. She said social media can target children with bullying. And she denounced playground bullies.

“As adults, many of us are able to handle mean words, even lies,” said Melania Trump. “Children and teenagers can be fragile. They are hurt when they are made fun of, or made to feel less in looks or intelligence. This makes their life hard, and can force them to hide and retreat. Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough, especially to children and teenagers.”

Melania Trump indicated these issues will be her focus if she becomes first lady.

“We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other,” said Melania Trump. “It will be one of the main focuses of my work if I am privileged enough to become your first lady.”

Melania Trump, a Slovenian immigrant and now a U.S. citizen, said she will also focus on women’s issues.

She said the current economy has left behind many women, with too many struggling with poverty.

“We must break with the failures of the past, and embrace a future that is worthy of this great nation and its beautiful people,” said Melania Trump. “We must win on Nov. 8.”
