University of Maryland economist Peter Morici said Thursday on Fox News that Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) “just likes to put a rock on the neck of the American worker” with Obama-era tax policies and health care policies.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends,” Morici praised the GOP-led Congress for passing sweeping tax reform legislation Wednesday. The package will reduce tax rates for corporations and individuals, and implement numerous other changes in the federal tax code.

Congressional Democrats unanimously voted against the bill, which also included provisions for opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for energy exploration and production, and repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate.

Saying that former President Barack Obama’s administration hampered economic growth with its regulations, Morici blasted Schumer and congressional Democrats for resisting President Donald Trump’s agenda.

“But you know, Chuck Schumer just likes to put a rock on the neck of the American worker and say, ‘Hey — Mr. Obama said it’s good for you. So wear this for the next four years until we get rid of Mr. Trump,'” Morici said. “I’ve got some bad news for Mr. Schumer. I think that Mr. Trump’s going to be around when [tax reform] gets traction.”

“Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy noted that Democrats talked “about how the tax bill’s passage signaled the end of the world” because “the earth is just going to open up and everybody’s going to fall in.”

Morici said that such a dismal Democratic response “surprised” him in two key ways.

“First of all, this looks a lot like Jack Kennedy’s tax cut, which had a salutary effect on the economy. We’re going to see a lot more investment, and you know you’re going to see it all around you,” Morici said. “The other thing is, you’re going to have more money in your paycheck come February. Which — how’s Chuck Schumer going to explain that?”

When Doocy asked Morici if he believed Wednesday was “the best day” of Trump’s presidency, Morici replied, “Absolutely.”

“There’s nothing like seeing a key campaign promise — something big — put into law,” Morici said. “And that’s going to happen as soon as he lays his signature on that bill.”
