In a move that surprised absolutely no one, The New York Times editorial board endorsed Hillary Clinton for president earlier this week.

The endorsement itself is valuable example of liberals’ stunning disconnect from reality, and a window into the progressive pathology. Clinton, The Times editorial board ensures its readers, is “bipartisan” and “has shown an unusual capacity to reach across the aisle.”

Trump is an iconoclast let loose in the progressive globalist temple.

Of course, to an objective, sane observer there is nothing remotely bipartisan or aisle-crossing about a politician who refers to Republicans as enemies, brags about closing down coal mines, and implies that the honest men and women who support her opponent are “deplorable.”

The Times also claims that “Mrs. Clinton has shown herself to be a realist who believes America … must engage confidently in the world to protect its interests and be true to its values, which include helping others escape poverty and oppression.” One wonders how Clinton’s cozy relationship with the Saudis exemplifies those true American values.

The idea that a liberal would say or write something demonstrably false in furthering his agenda is not particularly shocking to anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of arguing with one. Indeed, the modern American progressive worldview seems to be built entirely on falsehoods.

From the idea that conservatives are inherently misogynistic, to the belief that African-Americans suffer from systemic racism, to the notion that a biological human male can in reality be a female, to the claim that Donald Trump is a racist — the progressive platform is a veritable litany of lies.

It is tempting (and easy) to ascribe such statements to a fundamental dishonesty on the part of the Left — but to call it dishonesty is a dangerous understatement. For calling it dishonesty implies that the progressive is knowingly making a false statement or assertion.

The far more disturbing truth is that liberals wholeheartedly believe most of the lies they peddle, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, and they believe them because progressivism is in essence a religion.

Anyone who doubts this need only look at the expressions on the faces of the Yale students in a recently released video depicting a now-infamous 2015 incident in which a professor was hounded off of campus for defending non-PC Halloween costumes.

The video is telling — if these students were knowingly being dishonest in implying that certain Halloween costumes are bigoted or racist, then each and every one of them deserves an Oscar. No, these are true believers, their twisted looks of agony sincere, their tears real.

This is not the behavior of healthy, grounded individuals reacting to a dissenting political opinion — it is the behavior of religious zealots reacting to a heresy that challenges the very fundamentals of their faith. And it is not just confined to spoiled students.

The Brexit vote caused a similar reaction among the globalist, Establishment political class and their media mouthpieces, epitomized by journalist Christiane Amanpour’s on-screen meltdown the morning after the vote, in which she decried the results of the referendum and attributed them to xenophobia.

The Brexit result challenges the central tenets of the progressive religion — that there is an unbending arc of progress throughout history, that mass human migration is objectively good and only racists oppose it, and that the age of the nation-state is long over and consolidation into supranational entities is inevitable and desirable.

The New York Times displayed their adherence to the faith in their Clinton endorsement. “The next president will take office with bigoted, tribalist movements and their leaders on the march,” the endorsement claims.

This of course brings us to Donald Trump. The Left’s extreme hysteria in the face of Donald Trump is because he — and his supporters — challenge those very same tenets of the progressive faith in a way no GOP candidate has before.

Trump is an iconoclast let loose in the progressive globalist temple, and its priests’ steadfast faith in the progressive religion has left them deaf to the masses cheering him on.
