Department of Justice (DOJ) officials must release documents on an Obama-era official’s tipping off of 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta about the investigation into her use of a private email server, a federal judge ruled Saturday.

“We are pleased the court ordered the Justice Department to provide more details about its search for documents about Obama DOJ-Clinton campaign collusion,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said Monday in a statement announcing the ruling.

“It is disappointing we must continually battle the [Attorney General Jeff] Sessions Justice Department for basic information on corruption in the Obama Justice Department,” Fitton added.

U.S. District Court Judge Dabney L. Friedrich ordered the DOJ to provide further information about former Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs Peter Kadzik’s contact with Clinton campaign officials by June 15.

Friedrich’s ruling followed Judicial Watch’s January 2017 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking “all email correspondence between Peter Kadzik on his official Justice Department email account, [email protected], and any nongovernment employee concerning, regarding, or relating to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of non-state.gov email to conduct official government business.”

Judicial Watch also sought emails from Kadzik to John Podesta and other Clinton campaign officials.

Kadzik became embroiled in controversy during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, after WikiLeaks published a May 19, 2015, email from his gmail account to Podesta in which Kadzik gave him a heads-up about the DOJ’s review of Clinton’s use of a private email server to conduct official business as secretary of state.

“There is a HJC (House Committee on the Judiciary) oversight hearing today where the head of our Civil Division will testify. Likely to get questions on State Department emails,” Kadzik wrote. “Another filing in the FOIA case went in last night or will go in this a.m. that indicates it will be awhile (2016) before the State Department posts the emails.”

Friedrich found, “Although the [Justice Department] states that ‘Mr. Kadzik confirmed that he did not recall ever using his personal gmail account to send any other similar e-mails to John Podesta, or to anyone else associated with the Clinton campaign,’ … this statement does not cover the full scope of Judicial Watch’s specific FOIA requests.”

The DOJ’s and FBI’s conduct in their controversial investigations during the 2016 presidential election cycle is currently the focus of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s review. The report is expected to be made public Thursday.

Former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe are expected to come under heavy fire in the report amid allegations of pro-Clinton and anti-Trump bias within the agencies.
