MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host, Joe Scarborough, once again questioned President Donald Trump’s mental stability and fitness for office Thursday morning when he claimed that “people close to him during the campaign” told him that Trump was suffering from the “early stages of dementia.”

Scarborough and his co-host, Mika Brzezinski, often speculate about and deride the president’s mental health while pointing to controversial tweets of his and the rising tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. After he proclaimed that the U.S. “will survive” the Trump presidency, Scarborough lamented that “we are not fine in the country.”

“But right now, at this particular moment … we are headed towards a nuclear showdown,” Scarborough said. “And [Trump], he is completely detached from reality.”

Scarborough pointed to the 25th Amendment and the process for removing an unfit president from office. He highlighted several news outlets that also questioned Trump’s sanity, such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. A New York Daily News piece published Wednesday, called “Donald Trump is a madman: The president’s Wednesday Twitter spasm confirms what many Americans have long suspected,” also supported Scarborough’s narrative.

The “Morning Joe” host blasted Trump’s Cabinet members and administration officials, saying, “You serve America and you know it. You know you don’t serve Donald J. Trump.”

“You don’t represent him. You represent 320 million people whose lives are literally in your hands,” Scarborough said. “And we are facing a showdown with a nuclear power, and you have somebody inside the White House that the New York Daily News says is mentally unfit, that people close to him say is mentally unfit, that people close to him during the campaign told me had early stages of dementia.”

This isn’t the first time that the “Morning Joe” hosts wondered whether or not Trump had dementia. Back in May, Scarborough speculated on the president’s “confused mental state” before pointing to similarities he saw with his mother who had “dementia for 10 years.”

Also back in May, Brzezinski said, “You can argue that this president is completely incompetent, maybe even has some issues medically.”

Back in July, Scarborough said, “Far be it from me to speculate on the president’s state of mind” — before proceeding to speculate on the president’s state of mind regarding Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

Trump frequently targets Scarborough, Brzezinski, their show, and their network. The day before the co-hosts embarked on their latest speculation about Trump’s mental health, the president targeted Scarborough in a tweet.

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the ‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” Trump tweeted.

The president was referring to the mysterious death of one of Scarborough’s young female staffers, Lori Klausutis, in 2001 while he served as a Florida congressman.
