Ingraham: GOP Has ‘Given Us a Bunch of Goose Eggs’

LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham recommended Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) consider leaving “politics to people like Donald Trump, who can actually cut deals when necessary and get results,” during a segment Tuesday on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

After nearly eight months of enjoying majorities in both the House and the Senate and maintaining the White House, Republicans have failed to pass most of the key legislative agenda items on which they and President Donald Trump campaigned in 2016. When Trump bucked his party and struck a deal with congressional Democrats last week to raise the debt ceiling, he angered congressional Republicans. But with few results from GOP members in Congress, Ingraham argued that “it’s time” for McConnell and “a lot of his colleagues” to seek work elsewhere.

“The people expect action. If Mitch McConnell cannot get this done … with the House in Republicans’ hands, obviously the Senate and the presidency, then I think it’s time for him and a lot of his colleagues to go into a different line of work,” she said. “They’re just not all that good — contrary to what we’ve heard — at politics.”

“So maybe Mitch McConnell either rides off into the sunset, does something in Kentucky, maybe he can run a bourbon company or something down there, and leave politics to people like Donald Trump, who can actually cut deals when necessary and get results for the American people,” Ingraham added. “Because so far they’ve given us a bunch of goose eggs here.”

After the Senate’s embarrassing failure to repeal and replace Obamacare over the summer, Trump’s top legislative priority has shifted to passing tax reform. On Tuesday, the president met with Republican senators and moderate Democratic senators to overhaul the tax code and push his agenda. But McConnell has begun talking about pushing a tax bill to 2018.

Trump took to Twitter Wednesday morning to urge Congress to “move fast” on passing tax reform to boost the economy, especially in the wake of the two hurricanes that wreaked havoc on Texas, Louisiana and Florida over the past two weeks.

“The approval process for the biggest Tax Cut & Tax Reform package in the history of our country will soon begin. Move fast Congress!” Trump tweeted. “With Irma and Harvey devastation, Tax Cuts and Tax Reform is needed more than ever before. Go Congress, go!”

Host Sean Hannity asked, “Why won’t Congress just pass the legislation that all of you, the American people, voted for, and why can’t he simply just get the job done?”

But “We’ve gotten almost nothing from Republicans,” Ingraham lamented.

“And Donald Trump is sick of it. So he’s going to cut deals if he has to to move the ball down the field,” she said. “And Republicans can actually build out a movement that would sustain this party for decades, Sean, if they actually followed the ‘America First,’ ‘Make America great again’ agenda.”

“In this point we have a chance — the first time in 30 years — to revitalize the American economy for a new generation of Americans long after Mitch McConnell is gone, long after we’re gone,” Ingraham added.

Saying that “We need an economy that works for the average person,” she noted that “We’ve tried the other way” in a manner that reaped disastrous national results.

“We’ve tried globalization on steroids and that’s made a lot of people rich. But it hasn’t made the middle rich and the forgotten man and woman who showed up to vote for Trump,” Ingraham said. “And Donald Trump has to keep those people in mind as he does these negotiations.”
