Vargas-Rosas now faces terrorist charges in Illinois for the incident. It is unclear if Vargas-Rosas had a weapon, as he often reached to his waistband as if grabbing something. Police did not find a weapon, but the bus is still being searched, according to the Fox News account.

It is also unclear as to why the driver did not pull over immediately. Media reports indicate the driver may have thought the police, using sirens, were escorting the bus.

But after the bus ran over a second metal strip laid by police to puncture the tires, the bus pulled over in Lake County, Illinois. Vargas-Rosas was arrested at gunpoint.

Vargas-Rosas has a drunk-driving charge on his record, according to the Associated Press.

A judge in Illinois on Sunday ordered the suspect held without bond. Vargas-Rosas faces a fugitive-from-justice charge.

Forty people were on the bus. None were injured.

Vargas-Rosas was previously deported to Mexico in 2012, the Daily Herald of Illinois reported.

President Donald Trump has made deporting illegal immigrants who commit crimes a major part of his agenda. The White House press office had no comment when asked Monday by LifeZette.

While law enforcement spokesmen disclosed Vargas-Rosas’ prior deportations, the Chicago Tribune’s initial report did not mention his immigration status.
