The Hungarian people sent a strong message to Western globalists Sunday, as 98 percent of those voting in a referendum on the E.U.’s Muslim migrant quotas firmly rejected the plan.

“Hungary voted to keep its freedom, its right to decide who we want to live together with, and we decided that we won’t give this right to Brussels,” Prime Minister Viktor Orban said following the vote.

“Every single migrant poses a public security and terror risk.”

While only 44 percent of the people voted — short of the 50 percent required to make the referendum legally binding — the government has nevertheless claimed victory and has said it will treat the results as binding regardless.

“The government initiated the referendum, so both politically and legally the outcome is binding,” a government spokesman said. “The 50 percent would have made a difference because parliament could have no alternative but to make a decision. But parliament is behind the government regarding the decision. This is a reinforced mandate for the government,” the spokesman added.

The E.U.’s plan calls for the resettlement of 160,000 Muslim migrants currently in Greece and Italy across other E.U. member states, with Hungary set to receive 1,294 of them. Orban’s government is already suing the E.U. in the European Court of Justice for its plan and Sunday’s referendum results will only reaffirm the nation’s resolve to fight Brussels.

The great lengths to which Orban’s government is going to keep out a little over 1,000 Muslim migrants only underscores the radical nature of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s desire to bring in tens of thousands — potentially hundreds of thousands — of them.

Indeed, last week the Hungarian Counter-Terrorism Center (TEK) revealed that it had identified at least 14 ISIS terrorists who had come through Hungarian territory disguised as refugees — seven of whom were involved in the Paris attacks in November 2015.

It was also revealed last week during a Senate hearing that the Obama administration’s refugee screening process doesn’t even take into account applicants’ religious or social views. “Do you make any inquiry about practices that we reject in the United States like female genital mutilation?” Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions asked Simon Henshaw, deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

“Do you say: ‘Do you believe in that and when you come to the United States will you comply with the laws of the United States on that kind of question?'” continued Sessions. “I can’t answer that question — I don’t know,” Henshaw eventually replied.

The results of the Hungarian referendum also further underscore the extent to which the popularity of Donald Trump’s populist message is emblematic of a larger, Western-wide revolt against globalization and supranationalism.

Gergely Gulyas, vice-chairman of Hungary’s governing Fidesz Party, said the result was a win for national sovereignty. “Today is a sweeping victory for all those who reject the E.U.’s mandatory, unlimited quotas,” Gulyas said. “It is a sweeping victory for all those who believe that the foundations of a strong European Union can only be the strong nation-states.”

The Hungarian referendum also came days after Orban announced a massive recruitment drive seeking 3,000 border auxiliaries to aid Hungarian law enforcement in protecting the border and tracking down Muslim migrants.

“Hungary does not need a single migrant for the economy to work or the population to sustain itself or for the country to have a future,” Orban said. “Every single migrant poses a public security and terror risk.”
