Hillary Clinton took the state of Colorado’s nine electoral votes with 48.8 percent of the vote after 64 percent of the vote had been reported when Fox News called the state for her just before 10:30 p.m Tuesday.

The Centennial State largely polled in Clinton’s favor during the general election period until the end of September, when Donald Trump tied with her and even narrowly surpassed her in some polls. By the end of September and into early October, the two nominees polled in a dead heat.

Although Clinton surged ahead of Trump throughout the first half of October, the state came into intense competition as the two candidates came within 2 points of each other in the weeks leading up to the election. The last RealClearPolitics poll average before the election found Clinton an average of just 3 percentage points ahead of Trump. Both nominees concentrated significant efforts in swaying the Badger State through deploying surrogates to campaign for them and holding rallies themselves in the weeks leading up to Nov. 8.

It was a hard-fought battle and Trump put up a good fight in the state, which fell to President Obama in both 2008 and 2012. The state had gone blue in only three of the previous 10 presidential elections.
