Hillary Clinton appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday to insist that — despite the swirl of scandal surrounding the Clinton Foundation — everything is just fine and she has nothing to hide.

Clinton pretended to be shocked at the notion that anyone could be concerned about her relationship with the foundation during her time as secretary of state. In fact, despite the terrible optics the Clinton Foundation corruption scandal has generated for her campaign, Clinton was in no rush to disassociate herself from the organization.

“The work has not only been successful but it’s been in line with american interests and values.”

Host Joe Scarborough asked Clinton why the foundation wouldn’t just transfer its funds and operations to another foundation, such as the Gates Foundation, to end speculation of a conflict of interest.

“Winding down takes time,” insisted Clinton, who promised the foundation would be “taking additional steps” to examine their operations. What these steps might be she did not say.

Throughout the interview, Clinton was adamant that the foundation which bears her name has been a major force for good in the world, despite the fact that little of its money goes to charitable giving. In 2013, “only 10 percent of the Clinton Foundation’s expenditures were for direct charitable grants,” The Federalist reported in April 2015.

“The amount it spent on charitable grants – $8.8 million – was dwarfed by the $17.2 million it cumulatively spent on travel, rent, and office supplies. Between 2011 and 2013, the organization spent only 9.9 percent of the $252 million it collected on direct charitable grants.”

But not only did Clinton describe the foundation’s work as “successful” — she insisted that “it’s been in line with American interests and values.” It’s difficult to see how a foundation which takes as much as $50 million from Saudi Arabia, an Islamic theocracy ruled by Sharia law, which tortures political and religious dissidents, treats women as second class citizens, and executes homosexuals, could be in line with American interests and values.

Mike Brzezinski asked Clinton how she could earn back voters’ trust after the explosive Clinton Foundation and email leak revelations. “I will put out the entirety of my record” and “will do my best to answer” questions, Clinton promised.

Clinton, of course, couldn’t even publicly disclose the entirety of her email outbox, and currently faces new court orders for more email releases. Clinton also faces an impending congressional perjury investigation.
