Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and his obstructionist Democratic colleagues will not be able to block forever the initiatives and nominees put forward by President Donald Trump.

A key reason is the fact that more and more Trump appointees among front-line prosecutors and other law enforcement positions are peering into the recent past — and offering important context for the public to consider concerning scandals covered up during President Barack Obama’s eight years in the Oval Office. (Yes, there actually were scandals then!)

For example, only weeks after Dana Boente submitted his resignation as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia on October 26, 2017, Americans finally learned that lobbyist William D. Campbell had reams of evidence potentially implicating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation in corruption, money-laundering, and fraud dating back to at least 2009.

Obama’s Department of Justice under Attorney General Eric Holder somehow failed to notice, investigate or prosecute any of the crimes to which Campbell pointed before the 2012 presidential election.

What seems even worse are revelations now, slowly emerging from the FBI vault, that Clinton was the subject of a criminal investigation for mishandling classified information while using a private server and email address to conduct official U.S. diplomatic business during her tenure as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

The server was located in the Clinton mansion in New York and, according to the FBI and numerous digital technology experts, was quite likely compromised by foreign hackers and cyberspies working either independently or for the governments of Russia, China, North Korea, and other nations opposed to the United States.

This investigation began July 10, 2015, and then heated up during October 2016 when a grand jury was empaneled in the Eastern District of Virginia, as Clinton’s campaign against Trump neared its unexpected conclusion.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Robert Mueller, the special counsel he appointed after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from matters involving the Russia probe, have distinguished careers; however, at crucial points along the way, each has failed to catch and prosecute crimes involving former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.

Moreover, both are well-acquainted with former FBI Director James Comey, who has still much left to explain about his own half-hearted investigations of the Clintons.

Several months ago, tantalizing clues emerged that scandals swirling around Canadian financier Frank Giustra, the Clinton Foundation, a company called Uranium One, the Obama Administration, and the Clinton family might be far more serious than previously thought.

As we wait for additional evidence to emerge through congressional testimony, indictments, and otherwise, Americans across the political spectrum should embrace the Trump administration’s respect for the U.S. Constitution, the fair administration of justice, and the rule of law.

The perks of high political office should not and do not include immunity from prosecution for fraud, corruption, obstruction of justice, and criminal conspiracies.
