The Speaker of Florida’s House of Representatives Richard Corcoran (R) said Tuesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that any future active school shooters “will be executed on the spot” by specially trained marshals if the state passes its new “game-changing legislation.”

“In our bill, we have the first of its kind statewide, absolute game-changing, ‘end this insanity of gun-free zones’ marshal program where we allow … you have to be a sworn law enforcement officer [to be] qualified in our marshal program,” Corcoran (pictured above) told host Laura Ingraham.

“It’s 130 hours of training — more training than law enforcement officers when it comes to firearms, pistols, active-shooter shooting simulations, defensive tactics,” he said.

“They voluntarily enter into this program. They become marshals. And yes, they’re certified teachers. They can teach, too,” Corcoran added. “When that happens, when we have in every single school five, 10, 15, 20 marshals, none of these cowards [shooters] are coming in the school. And if for some reason they do, they will be executed on the spot. That’s the game-changing legislation.”

Corcoran’s comments come in the wake of 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz’s killing of 17 people at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14; he injured other people as well. Law enforcement and school officials failed to heed multiple prior warnings about Cruz, and armed Broward County sheriff’s deputies who arrived on the scene during the massacre failed to confront Cruz.

The tragedy has prompted a scramble among local, state and federal lawmakers to craft new legislation designed to prevent future massacres.

Corcoran touted Florida’s new bill to increase the gun-purchasing age from 18 to 21, and instituting waiting periods for buying semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 that Cruz used. The measure also provides additional training of marshals who may be responding to active-shooter situations.

Corcoran noted he is a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and is an A-rated legislator, according to the firearms education and advocacy group. He also holds a concealed carry permit.

Although Corcoran said he is a fervent supporter of the Constitution’s Second Amendment,  he is willing to pass new regulations needed to protect children.

“It’s a game-changer for the safety of our children.”

“And what we really want to do is solve the problem,” Corcoran said. “It’s a game-changer. It’s a game-changer for the Second Amendment. It’s a game-changer for the safety of our children. And it’s a game-changer because what we do in Florida oftentimes goes to the other 49 states in no time.”
