Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) denounced the Left for blaming the Annapolis newsroom shooting on President Donald Trump during an interview Friday on “The Laura Ingraham Show“.

“Obviously, that’s not true,” DeSantis said when asked by host Ingraham about the Left’s blaming of the president.

“If you look at the times we’ve had deranged activity, it’s been the Left attacking conservatives. I was on the congressional baseball team when the Bernie Sanders/Trump-hating gunman opened fire on our baseball practice,” he said.

The Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was attacked by a gunman who left five people dead and several others injured. Authorities arrested Jarrod Ramos at the scene, where they arrived within a minute of the alarm of an active shooter in the newspaper’s newsroom.

“You look at Maxine Waters trying to incite people to harass Trump administration official,” DeSantis said. “What the Left is doing right now is off the rails, and it’s all driven by a knee-jerk hatred of Donald Trump.”

Trump was quickly blamed for the attack by some who claimed his criticism of the media inspired the gunman. Journalists, left-wing activists and even a former congressman were reportedly among the critics who used the shooting to blame the president.

Ramos, according to witnesses, entered the building with a shotgun, then blasted the newsroom with multiple shells. Local authorities said Ramos “had a vendetta” against the newspaper, and had made threats “indicating violence” on social media.
