CNN anchor Don Lemon on Wednesday could not contain his laughter — literally — at a briefing by White House press secretary Sean Spicer on President Donald Trump’s border wall.

Spicer used photographs at his daily briefing Wednesday to argue that a spending bill passed by the House of Representatives Tuesday allows the administration to begin laying the groundwork for construction of the wall along the Mexican border.

“I’m sorry. This is better than SNL. And actually, if you talk at the people who make it, it’s called a bollard fence and a levy fence. It’s not a wall.”

It was the same argument that a senior administration official made to LifeZette earlier this week.

But Lemon literally laughed, referencing “Saturday Night Live,” after playing a clip of the news conference.

“I’m sorry. This is better than SNL,” he said. “And actually, if you talk at the people who make it, it’s called a bollard fence and a levy fence. It’s not a wall.”

CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza noted that the spending bill contains no money for new barriers.

“One, I guarantee you Sean Spicer did not think he would be getting into the technical aspects of walls vs. fences when he first took the job. He is … No. 2, this is spin,” he said.

Cillizza said Trump prioritized avoiding a partial government shutdown.

“He backed down from that because he knew that would shut the government down,” he said.

Lemon said the fencing work included in the bill is routine maintenance.

“This is not the big, beautiful wall that the Trump admin or President Trump promised,” he said. “This is spin.”

CNN’s Gloria Borger interjected, “I want to know where’s Mexico in all of this.”

Added Lemon: “And they’re not paying for it.”
