Under President Obama’s watch, certain America cities have become as dangerous as failed, war-torn African states.

More people have died in Chicago in 2016 so far than died in armed conflict in Somalia over the entire course of 2015, according to statistics from an Amnesty International annual report.

In Obama’s America, it seems residents in Chicago could face a higher chance of being killed by violence than their counterparts in Mogadishu.

The human rights watchdog reported that “over 500 people were killed or injured by armed conflict and generalized violence” in Somalia 2015 amid continued conflict between “Somali Federal Government (SFG) forces, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers, and the armed group al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.”

In Chicago, in roughly the three-quarters of 2016 alone, over 520 people have been murdered. DNAInfo puts the exact number at 524, while the Chicago Tribune has recorded 530 homicides.

Whether it’s 520 dead or 545, the fact remains that Chicago appears to be comparably dangerous to a country that hasn’t had a stable government in over 25 years and is overrun with Islamic militants. In Obama’s America, it seems residents in Chicago could face a higher chance of being killed by violence than their counterparts in Mogadishu.

On Wednesday, the Chicago Police Department announced it is adding nearly 1,000 additional officers to combat the city’s murderous epidemic.

“The shootings and gang violence hasn’t been this intense in a long time,” said Superintendent Eddie Johnson. Homicides in Chicago are up 50 percent over this time last year.

In the last week alone, 60 Chicago residents were shot and 12 were murdered. While Chicago’s murder rate is shocking, it is part of a nationwide rise. On Sept. 9, The New York Times reported that murder rates rose in 25 percent of country’s 100 biggest cities.

Many attribute this rise to the aftermath of high-profile police shootings of blacks and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. The anti-police, anti-white rhetoric now implicitly endorsed by a major political party has emboldened criminals and disheartened law enforcement.

But as Chicago’s horrifying murder rate shows, the biggest threat to black lives are criminals — not men or women with badges.

If the radicals in Black Lives Matter truly cared for black lives and the safety and security of the black community, they would be marching to stop the very real senseless violence that plagues that community daily in cities like Chicago — not the imaginary racist police violence that exists to push a political narrative.

Tellingly, Black Lives Matter was not happy at the announcement of Chicago’s efforts to increase police numbers in order to save black lives. Indeed, not only did they resent the increase in officers, but they also demanded an overall decrease in the department’s budget — in the middle of a murder epidemic.

“We oppose the addition of 970 more police and demand an immediate reduction of all policing funds in Chicago,” Black Lives Matter said. “The money saved should be used to provide services for the people.”

Of course, “services for the people” — whatever those may be exactly — don’t do much good if one can’t go outside without getting killed.
