A Republican presidential candidate has not won a significant share of the black vote since Richard Nixon took nearly a third of it in 1960, but a black pastor said Monday Donald Trump will change that.

The Rev. Stephen Parson, pastor of the Richmond Christian Center in Virginia, said on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that he had been approached by wealthy donors about co-chairing a super PAC called Trump USA and agreed to do it.

The PAC will fund a pilot program in Richmond to improve the economy in the black community, according to Parson. He said is contacting black leaders.

“We’ve got the funding now to bring about redevelopment, create jobs and businesses so we can get our people off of welfare and get them into a position where they can do for themselves,” he said. “I’m telling you, it’s incredible what’s taking place, all because of Donald Trump.”

Parson, who attended a widely publicized meeting between Trump and black ministers, predicted Trump will do well.

“One hundred percent of the minority, black and Latino community is going to be voting for Donald Trump,” said Parson, adding, “I have met Donald Trump. There’s not a racist bone in his body.”

Parson said he admires Trump’s business acumen and said he believes the businessman is genuinely against same-sex marriage and abortion, despite an inconsistent record of public statements on those issues.

Parson said he has taken heat for his stand, adding that some black pastors have admitted that they are voting for Trump, but don’t want to go public with their support.

“It’s incredible the attacks that we’re getting,” he said.
