As 2016 comes to a close, we are taking a moment to note some of the truly despicable moms of the year.

Why? Drunk, drugging, disheveled, or just plain determined to do as they please, these individuals let their children down as well as themselves — and have a long way to go to be worthy of the term “parent.”

Let’s pray for them. They clearly need help — as do any of their still-surviving offspring.

Drunk Mom Leaves Her Child in the Freezing Cold
Alexandria Carmon of Thornton, Colorado, is accused of leaving her two-year-old son in a parked car overnight last Friday in a snowstorm that brought below-freezing temperatures — a car she then couldn’t find. The mother admitted to authorities she had been drinking.

A group of police officers scanned a gas station’s surveillance videotape for hours the morning after in the hope of locating the car and the child, KDVR, a Denver TV station, reported.

The 26-year-old said she had been in a car crash and then left the vehicle without her son. Carmon said she had been at the Conoco gas station — and had possibly parked her Ford Fusion sedan near a Chinese restaurant.

A recently released affidavit provided details about how officers eventually found the severely hypothermic and frostbitten boy thanks to a tip, good fortune, and what authorities called “meticulous” police work. At about noon on Saturday, the Thornton police officers at the gas station rushed just yards away to a parking lot shared by a Target store and a Panda Express, where they found Carmon’s Ford Fusion covered with roughly six inches of snow, according to KDVR.

Inside the car, officers found the toddler, who was half-buckled into a car seat and “appeared to be in distress.” He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The vehicle showed no sign of having been involved in a crash, Barnes said.

Carmon is being held at the Adams County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of criminally negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

A Stepmom in Hot Water
An Ohio woman, Anna Ritchie, killed her four-year-old stepson last March by putting him in a bath of scalding water as punishment, law enforcement officials said.

Ritchie was indicted earlier this week for the March death of little Austin Cooper.

Prosecutors said the 25-year-old — who faces murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and endangering children charges — resented being a stepmother and used the 130-degree soaking as a sick form of punishment, according to the New York Daily News.

“Anna Ritchie is pure evil,” the child’s grandmother, Sheri Gredig, said — adding the heartless woman deserved a life prison sentence.

‘I’ll Save Myself First, Thanks’
When the Miami condo unit of 32-year-old Erica Rosello caught fire back in February, her neighbors found her outside, ignoring her five-year-old daughter’s screams for help.

Luckily, firefighters arrived on the scene, smashed open the child’s bedroom window, and carried the girl to safety, according to the Miami CBS station.

Meanwhile, the mom had fled the scene. The girl, who had fallen unconscious at the time of rescue, was hospitalized and treated for smoke inhalation. Rosello was located and put in jail. She reportedly had previous arrests for neglect and drunk driving on her record.

Toddler Said He ‘Needed a Beer’
Sandra Bennett, 42, was charged with abandoning and endangering her young child in late February.

The charges came after law enforcement acted on a neighbor’s tip — and found the tiny tot living in filth amid moldy dishes, bedbugs, and cockroaches.

The three-year-old was covered in bug bites.

He reportedly said to police, “I need a beer,” when they arrived to investigate, local news station Fox 34 reported.
