Despite chilly temperatures in the nation’s capital, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn early on Monday — the 140th event of its kind.

The first couple (who blew whistles to kick off the event) welcomed thousands of eager kids and parents — along with legions of volunteers, today and over the weekend, who helped set up for the largest event of the year at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

In addition to the traditional egg roll, other activities included making greeting cards for U.S. troops — and decorating eggs.

New this year was lawn bowling — compliments of the first lady.

True to form, first lady Melania Trump stole the show again this year. Wearing a baby blue belted pea coat with oversized black buttons, she read from the children’s book “YOU!” by Sandra Magsamen — about big dreams and how to achieve them.

The American Egg Board presented the first lady with a rhinestone-encrusted egg as part of the traditional egg roll, as Business Insider and others reported. Elegant on the outside, it opens to reveal a miniature version of President Trump and Melania Trump.

The egg, called “Wings of Prayer,” was created by Deborah Grassel, an artist from Paige, Texas.

Believe it or not, the White House Easter Egg Roll dates far back — to 1878.

The annual tradition began under President Rutherford B. Hayes and draws families from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
