If you are a parent, you may want to think about voting for Donald Trump. Not only do his children rave about what a good father he is, now his pro-family colors are beginning to show.

As a pediatrician, mother, and grandmother, this is very important to me. Trump is advocating paid leave for mothers and changing the tax code to help families — rather than incentivize parents to separate for tax reasons. These steps are critical for children because they will help mothers be home more with their babies and not worry about their income during maternity leave.

Restructuring the tax code, too, will help keep the government from acting as a surrogate father.

And Trump doesn’t stop there. He actually advocates for fathers. I have been writing to fathers for years, so I have my finger on the pulse of what they’re feeling. Many well-educated, involved fathers feel pushed aside when they are repeatedly told through sitcoms and movies that they are unnecessary to children.

Trump is acknowledging what the medical literature has shown for years: Dads matter in children’s lives. They really matter.

So thank you, Donald Trump, for advocating for the family. While I can’t comment on Hillary Clinton as a mother, I can say with certainty that her husband appeared to be a pretty lousy father. Can you imagine being Chelsea Clinton and hearing about her father’s sexual exploits for years? How miserable.

If you value your family time, love being a mother, and want your husband to have more support, you’d better pay attention to Trump’s propositions. They’re a whole lot better for your children than Hillary’s.
