She added, “People can take from it whatever they are going to take from it. But this song has a specific message about families.”

She described how deeply “Bottle by My Bed” has affected others. “One woman came up to me after one of my shows. And she was crying — ugly crying. I mean, there was snot coming out of her nose.”

And the woman, hysterical, confessed to Sweeney the truth of her own situation. “She told me how upset she had been with her kids that day. She had been screaming and she was stressed out. ‘It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done,’ she told me, and she said she was even mad at God and yelling at Him, ‘Why me? Why did You give me three kids and not just one?’ Then she said, ‘And then I heard your song. And I heard you singing about your struggles to have a child, a baby to love — and here I was being a jerk about my own kids.’ She had a complete change of heart,” said Sweeney.

She added, “This was a completely different viewpoint on my song that I thought was just so cool. Every parent gets stressed at some point while raising their kids. I just think this song is going to open up a bunch of doors for people in many different situations.”

Sweeney added about the pain of infertility and miscarriage, “It just does not get talked about today at all. And people hide it — my own mom had four miscarriages after she had me. Four. And some friends of mine have had multiple miscarriages, too. I have heard from so many people in all different situations — they’ve all reached out. And somehow this song is making it OK to talk about this very tough subject.”

Sweeney’s heartfelt and beautiful song “Bottle by My Bed” is from her new album, “Trophy,” which is available now.  [lz_pagination]
