A childhood favorite, the Hula Hoop exploded in 1958, when 25 million plastic hoops sold in less than four months. Invented by Arthur Melin and Richard Knerr, the Hula Hoop was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998. To date, the longest verified record for keeping one of these hoops spinning is held by Aaron Hibbs of Columbus, Ohio, who kept his hoop spinning for more than three full days — 74 hours and 54 minutes, to be precise. At $1.98 a unit, this product sold more than 100 million units in just two years.
