Max Akin of Keller, Texas, is a talented young quarterback. In the first half of his school’s homecoming game, the Fossil Ridge High School QB had 200 passing yards, 60 rushing yards, and four touchdowns. Thanks to his impressive arm and a squad of hard-working teammates, Fossil Ridge High School won the first three games of its new season.

“It was a blessing to be the one to hand it to a guy like K.L.,” said Max Akin.

But it’s Akin’s winning play on the sidelines that has people around the country buzzing.

Both Max and K.L. were nominees for Fossil Ridge homecoming king. The quarterback was awarded the crown at halftime, but just after — on one bended knee — he presented it to team manager K.L. Norwood, his friend who has cerebral palsy. The homecoming queen looked on happily.

“It was absolutely terrific,” Norwood told Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA, grinning widely.

“It was a blessing to be the one to even hand it to a guy like K.L.,” Akin told LifeZette. “He deserved it — I was just the one who got the honor of acknowledging that. I hope it made him really happy.”

Akin, 17, wasn’t sure exactly when he would hand the crown over to his friend. “But I saw K.L., came over and gave him a hug, and I knew that he wanted that crown more than anything,” he told WFAA.

“Max — that’s just what he is, and that’s what our team is, too,” Fossil Ridge Head Coach Tony Baccarini told WFAA. “They love each other, and that’s why we’re successful.”

“I appreciate it,” Norwood said of his friend’s gesture.

“I thought it was the best, hearing them chant K.L.’s name right after halftime, and I know he liked that, too,” said Akin. “Everybody was going wild for him. Everybody loves K.L. at this school.”

“My favorite quarterback right here,” Norwood affirmed, slapping his buddy on the shoulder pads.
