Melania Trump made a bold fashion choice on her way to visit a migrant children’s shelter in Texas on Thursday.
As the first lady boarded a government plane at Andrews Air Force Base, she wore white pants, a pair of sneakers, and a $39 trench coat from Zara, as USA Today reported.
On the back of the coat was this provocative message: “I don’t care, do u?”
The first lady’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, attempted to dismiss any notion of a hidden message.
“It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe,” Grisham said.
President Trump weighed in Thursday evening, tweeting: “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!”

The mainstream media — so predictably — pounced on the message on her jacket.

Here's the thing: SOMEONE in that operation should have seen th jacket and though "Hmmm, maybe this is't the best idea." pic.twitter.com/A6JZwZ1cFd

A much bigger and more important story than what Melania Trump was wearing was what she was actually doing in Texas, and what the mainstream media chose to either ignore, downplay or dismiss. She wanted to see the condition of children held in migrant shelters firsthand, visit with them, and play an important role for the administration in thinking of these children’s best interests.
