Melania Trump is ready to work on behalf of the nation’s youth. In a speech Thursday afternoon in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, the potential first lady said she planned to tackle the darker side of social media. “Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough,” she said. “It would be one of the many purposes of my work if I am privileged enough to become your first lady.”

“As adults, many of us can handle mean words, even lies,” Melania Trump said. “But children and teenagers can be fragile … It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl is mocked, bullied, or attacked.”

She also shared her personal story of immigration, her belief in her husband’s campaign — which she called “a movement” — and her early love and respect for Ronald Reagan.

“When I was 10 years old we learned that a man named Ronald Reagan was elected president of the United States of America,” she said. “President Reagan’s ‘Morning in America’ was not just something in the United States, it began to feel like morning around the world, even in my small country.” She was born in 1970 in Slovenia, which was then part of Yugoslavia.

“It was a true inspiration to me,” Melania Trump added.

Clearly a mission is forming in the heart and mind of the elegant, soft-spoken, and devoted wife, mother, and businesswoman. Her comments Thursday echoed comments she made earlier in the week to CNN’s Anderson Cooper during a sit-down interview.

“My passion is … helping children and helping women and also I see now in [the] 21st century, social media — it’s very damaging for the children,” she said.

“The internet is a blessing and a curse,” noted a Reading, Massachusetts, wife, mother, and grandmother, Sandra Santosuosso. “The convenience it offers is unparalleled, but it can be sinister, too.”

“I knew right then I was really going to like Melania,” said Karen Pence.

She added, “We have knowledge at our fingertips, but we also have adults who use the web and social media to prey on kids. There’s cyberbullying, and ISIS is using the net to network their hateful and deadly agenda.”

cyberbullying can be very damaging to teens and kids, causing anxiety and depression, which sometimes leads to suicide.

Melania Trump was introduced on Thursday before her speech by Karen Pence, wife of Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate. Karen Pence shared a story about meeting Melania Trump for the first time when Donald Trump was considering vice presidential candidates.

“We had raised independent-thinking children who don’t always agree with their father on every issue,” Pence told the enthusiastic crowd, saying she told Melania this exact thing at the dinner table.

“She looked at me with her warm smile and she said, ‘I like that. You’re teaching them to think for themselves. I like that,'” Pence recalled.

“And I knew right then I was really going to like Melania,” the potential second lady told the crowd.
