The reviews are in: First lady Melania Trump absolutely triumphed at the Trump administration’s first state dinner at the White House, held this week to welcome French first couple Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

The first lady wore a silver Chanel gown, and wowed during a pressure-filled event. Even vocal press critics of the administration had to admit the night was a success: “Mrs. Trump seemed wholly at ease in the part she played Tuesday night,” reported The Washington Post.

“Melania Trump has engineered her own diplomatic triumph recently,” said host Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show “The Ingraham Angle” on Tuesday night. “First, as a dignified White House representative at the Barbara Bush funeral this weekend, and then, over the last two days, as the flawless hostess of the French first family –– including at tonight’s state dinner.”

The Macrons arrived in Washington on Monday for their three-day visit, which included a private helicopter ride, a tree-planting ceremony at the White House, and a dinner at Mount Vernon, the home of first President George Washington in Fairfax County, Virginia.

First ladies are traditionally tasked with planning every detail of state dinners, down to the centerpieces, linens, flower arrangements, and even the font used on the menus. “Laura Bush said she wasn’t nervous before her own wedding but she was nervous before the first state dinner with the Mexican president. I think it’s a lot of pressure,” Kate Andersen Brower, author of “First Women: The Grace and Power of America’s Modern First Ladies,” told NPR.

Melania Trump handled the dinner capably and gracefully. But will the mainstream media ever wake up and give this warm, intelligent and generous first lady her due?

“Well, maybe Melania will finally get some of those magazine covers that featured Michele Obama so prominently and frequently, but I won’t hold my breath,” said Ingraham on Tuesday night’s show.
