The Fourth of July has come and gone, but the fireworks have only just begun for Brandon Straka, the founder of the #WalkAway movement and campaign.

Until recently a lifelong liberal who voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, Straka has left the Democratic Party — he’s tired of identity politics and the incessant emphasis on political correctness.

He’s also worried now about actual violence, as he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham recently on “The Laura Ingraham Show” (see his conversation with her in the video below).

Straka also happens to be a gay white male, and he once believed in foundational liberal mantras passed off as truth. Today, he’s tackling everything from bigotry to groupthink.

Straka is still taking heat for abandoning the Left — and some of it’s aggressive. Straka said Thursday he was denied service by a camera store employee who “recognized him from TV.”

“I’m shaking right now,” Straka tweeted on Thursday. “I just went into a camera store to buy a camera and a light and mic, etc. and they recognized me from TV. I was refused service because they said it was for ‘alt right’ purposes. That literally just happened.”

Nevertheless, Straka remains focused on his new mission.

“For far too long, the Left has controlled the narrative in this country in news and media, while the ‘silent majority’ on the Right have done what they always do — remained silent,” Straka wrote on the group’s Facebook page.

“The Left has been allowed for so long to reinforce the narrative that everybody on the Right is a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, etcetera. But the Left has become so extreme, it’s now time to fight back. I want people on the Right to use their voices and tell the world the truth about who they are.”

Straka released a compelling video just recently encouraging other liberals to leave the progressive movement. The very reason he became a liberal is also why he is walking away.

#WalkAwayCampaign Call to Action

Hey PATRIOTS!Welcome to the #WalkAway campaign. This video is about why I am walking away from liberalism and the Democratic Party. It is my sincere hope that you will join me in this campaign and that we may start a movement in this country- which not only encourages others to walk away from the divisive left, but also takes back the narrative from the liberal media about what it means to be a conservative in America. It is up to all of us to make our voices heard and reclaim the truth. The Democratic Party has taken for granted that it owns racial, sexual, and religious minorities in America. It has encouraged groupthink, hypocrisy, division, stereotyping, resentment, and the acceptance of victimhood mentality. And all the while, they have discouraged minorities from having independent thought, open dialogue, measured and informed opinion, and a motivation to succeed. Please like and share my video, and please post your own #WalkAway video!! If you are a former liberal who has walked away from the left, please share your story, or your message, or your thoughts in a video on the WalkAway Campaign Facebook Page.If you are a lifelong conservative or non-Democrat, please share your story, message, or thoughts on what it truly means to be a conservative. Right now, the liberal media continues to perpetuate a false narrative about the “hateful” and “bigoted” right. Use your voice to let people know who conservatives really are. With nearly two million Facebook views so far, Straka’s movement is gaining traction — and allies are surfacing from unlikely places, as the Facebook posts suggest.

“I walked away in 2012 and switched parties in 2016,” one commenter wrote. “The Democratic Party has gone too far left. #HispanicsforTrump2020#WalkAway.”

Posted another: “I just made a comment to a Canadian that maybe he should start a Canadian Chapter of #WalkAway. This thing needs to go worldwide!”

In a letter called “The Unsilent Majority,” dated July 2, Straka articulated that the aim of his campaign is to support others who share his dissolution with the progressive movement.

“The #WalkAway Campaign is a true grassroots movement,” he wrote. “It is a video campaign movement, dedicated to sharing the stories of people who can no longer accept the current ideology of liberalism and what the Democratic Party has become. Some left long ago. Many of us have recently been ‘red-pilled’ [a popular phrase that stands for knowledge, freedom, and the brutal truths of reality]. Some here have wanted to leave for some time, but have feared the consequences they might suffer from friends or family if they walk away.”

Straka also encourages those on the Right to weigh in on what it means to be conservative, without scorn and derision from mainstream media and other liberals.

He added, “This is a movement of patriots of all walks of life — men, women, black, brown, white, straight, LGBT, religious, un-religious, who share something very important in common … We are Americans. And we want our country back.”
