One of the most stunning photos shared over the weekend in regard to the devastation wrought by Harvey in Texas is this image of senior citizens (below) sitting in waist-deep water at their nursing home.

Fifteen senior citizens were evacuated from the La Vita Bella nursing home in Dickinson, Texas, David Popoff, the city’s emergency management coordinator, told the Galveston County Daily News.

The seniors were rescued by helicopter from their waterlogged residence. “We were airlifting grandmothers and grandfathers,” Popoff said, as Fox News also reported.

Fox shared the following details:

A picture of the residents sitting in waist-deep water shared to Twitter Sunday went viral after it was posted by Timothy McIntosh, who told the newspaper his mother-in-law owns the assisted-living home.

His wife, Kimberly McIntosh, said her mother sent the picture at 9 a.m. this morning.

“She said it was a disaster, and they were hoping the National Guard would come,” Kimberly McInstosh said.

Some people on social media said they thought the image was a sick photoshopping effort — but plenty of people spoke from the heart when they said, “Rescue them, please!”

“The latest forecasts show 15 to 25 inches of rain is possible in Texas over the next several days,” Fox News reported. “Rainfall from Harvey could reach up to 50 inches in some spots, making it the highest ever recorded in the state, the National Weather Service announced.”

As the National Weather Service also tweeted out, “This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced.”

Search and rescue operations continued Sunday and into Monday. The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, said Sunday at a news conference that the Lone Star State had activated 3,000 National and State Guard members to combat the severe flooding and damage that have resulted from the storm.
