How can this happen in American society today, when we have every technical advance available to us?
How can this happen in the midst of a busy, bustling city?
And yet — this story has a happy ending all because of two caring, giving police officers.
The Colorado Springs cops came to the aid of a desperate Sand Creek resident — a man who was stuck in the middle of an intersection for hours on end after his electric wheelchair ran out of power, Fox News and KOAA News reported.
Officers Devin Mieke and Zakary Gallegos took the unidentified man “to a nearby IHOP restaurant, where he was able to plug into an outlet and charge his chair,” as Fox News reported.

“They then bought him a steak and eggs breakfast,” the Colorado Springs Police Department noted in a post on Tuesday.
“The man said he had been stuck for hours. He related that cars had been passing him, but no one would stop.”
This Facebook post to date has received over 1,500 reactions.
Many people commented that they were “saddened” that nobody — not a soul, apparently — had stopped to help the man while he was stranded in the intersection.
“It was not clear,” said the Fox News report, “why the man required the assistance of a wheelchair.”
But thank goodness two quick-thinking, thoughtful, and decisive police officers ultimately came to the man’s rescue — and treated him with the humanity, decency and care that he and every single person in our great country deserves.
