Everyone knows that having your nails on fleek can make you feel like a brand new person. And when your fingers and toes match, it feels like the stars have finally aligned.

But just when you thought nothing bad could ever perforate the perfect beauty sanctuary that is the nail salon, there’s always one instance that brings it all down. And this one will definitely make you want to sharpen your claws — pun totally intended.

One nail salon in Frayser, Tennessee, known as Rose Nails, is currently in a lot of heat for a preposterous policy.

According to the complaints of one Memphis resident, Deshania Ferguson, accompanied by photo evidence from her Facebook, their rule reads as follows: “Sorry, but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists. Thank you!”

After posting it online, the photo garnered over 500 shares and others began to seriously question the integrity of the nail salon — with good reason.

WREG, the local news source for Memphis, immediately set to investigate the allegations, speaking with Son Nguyen, one of the nail technicians from the salon. They mentioned the many complaints as well as the vehement backlash against the nail salon online, and Nguyen denied the presence of the sign altogether.

He instead came back by saying that “instead of putting a sign up he’s decided to just not service someone if they are severely overweight,” claiming that he’s had broken chairs due to overweight clients and that pedicures for overweight individuals are significantly more difficult and strenuous for his nail technicians.
