There’s very little news about Mike Pence’s health — which is good news in and of itself, given the notion of health as a campaign issue in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s collapse a week ago at the 9/11 commemoration ceremonies and her subsequent admissions she’d been diagnosed with pneumonia. Then on Saturday, after a campaign event, she was seen coughing again.

The GOP vice-presidential nominee, Mike Pence, 57, has “a very good and strong heart” and is in “excellent” health, according to his physician.

The only medication Pence takes is Claritin for seasonal allergies. He exercises four times a week.

Dr. Michael Busk of the St. Vincent Health, Wellness and Preventive Care Institute in Indianapolis released a summary of Pence’s medical history on Saturday, along with the results of a physical examination from July 6. Busk has been his physician since 2013.

The letter summarizes his medical history and states he can maintain his high level of work and exercise routines “without limitations.”

The governor of Indiana is said to “see physicians regularly on an annual basis for prevention of disease.” He sees a cardiologist annually as a preventative measure. In 2002, he had a heart scan for a total coronary artery calcium score, which was 0 or no calcium deposits (excellent score).

The only medication Pence takes is Claritin for seasonal allergies. He doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol, and he exercises four times a week. Pence had basal cell carcinomas — skin cancer — removed from his face in 2002 and 2010. He also had surgery in August 2015 to repair a hernia. His last colonoscopy was in 2009 and no polyps were found.

Pence’s excellent health assessment follows the release of running mate Donald Trump’s records on Thursday. Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, both released statements on their health earlier in the week. Ever since Hillary Clinton collapsed a week ago in lower Manhattan at a 9/11 memorial event and later revealed she’d been diagnosed with pneumonia, the health of the candidates has become a campaign issue.

Gov. Mike Pence is a lifelong Hoosier with legal, small business and policy experience. He was elected the 50th governor of Indiana in 2012 and inaugurated January 14, 2013.
