It can be tough to get psyched up enough on a cold winter’s day to head outside and exercise.

Some might even tell you it’s a bad idea — and that you’ll make yourself sick.

But the cooler temperatures may actually do wonders for your workout, your health, and your attitude.

The benefits of running during the winter include boosts to your immune system, your mood, and your Vitamin D intake. Getting outdoors and getting some fresh air is also far more fun than running on a treadmill — and you get a great head start on summer training goals.

Jeff Dengate, an editor at Runner’s World, said there are no absolute rules when it comes to deciding whether to run in winter weather.

“My general rule of thumb is to use your head,” he told AccuWeather.com. “There are no bad [weather conditions], just bad gear choices.”
