An Iraqi mom and dad embraced their young daughter again after nearly three years. That’s how long ago Islamic extremists abducted the girl, according to reports from the Middle East.

ISIS jihadis kidnapped Christina Abada, a Christian Iraqi girl, in 2014, when she was just three years old, Reuters reported from Erbil, Iraq. Abada is now nearly six.

“She must have been with a family who took good care of her.”

“While Christina has returned home safely, thousands of other Yazidi, Christian, and other minority girls and women have been subjected to horrific treatment by men from Islamic State, also known as IS, ISIS, ISIL or Daesh,” The Christian Post noted.

In this instance, a jihadi snatched the child from her mother’s arms in the city of Qaraqosh (located about 10 miles southeast of Mosul). Jihadis had rounded up the Christians to receive “medical checkups” — then allegedly proceeded to take gold and valuables away from them.

“Christina was abducted in August 2014, when IS overran Iraq’s second city, Mosul, and then swept into the Christian city of Qaraqosh in the Nineveh Plains, where the Abadas lived,” World Watch Monitor reported on June 9. “Prior to IS’ occupation, it was the largest Christian city in Iraq.”

World Watch Monitor reports on Christian persecution around the globe and has shared the Abadas’ story over the past couple years.

“Already, hundreds of thousands of Christians and other minorities had fled the northern region. The Abada family, however, stayed behind in Qaraqosh because the father, Khader, is blind,” according to a July 2015 report from World Watch Monitor.

Khader and Ayda (or Aida) Abada — the child’s parents — have lived in a refugee camp near Erbil for the past two years, according to reports.

“She stayed three years with the terrorists,” the girl’s mother told Reuters. “Of course she forgot who her mother is, who her father is, that we are her family, but she will learn again.”

Little Christina Abada appeared in “shock,” a Christian woman from the Ashti refugee camp, where the family lives, told World Watch Monitor.

“She looks OK, quite healthy,” the woman noted. “I believe she must have been in the house of a family who took good care of her. She was even wearing gold earrings, so it must have been a wealthy family.”

The below video from World Watch Monitor shows the child being reunited with her family.
