Media reports are suggesting pop star Justin Bieber, 23, canceled the remainder of his current concert tour for religious reasons.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts,” a publicist announced on July 24.

The superstar himself has not yet issued a statement. Last year his concerts grossed over $163 million, according to industry tracker Pollstar.

Celebrity news sites, including TMZ, and other publications have been speculating about the reason for the canceled concerts: Justin Bieber has “‘rededicated his life to Christ’ … sources connected to Hillsong Church tell TMZ.”

Hillsong Church is a contemporary megachurch founded in Sydney, Australia, with locations around the world. Its music ministry, Hillsong Worship, along with its worship band, Hillsong United, has released numerous popular Christian songs.

“We know [Bieber] was in the country a few weeks ago having meetings and attending the big Hillsong convention that they had here,” Richard Wilkins, a veteran entertainment reporter, told the Australian morning news program Today Extra. “Whether he’s looking at teaming up with them or [securing] something of a more permanent situation, or doing some sort of religious activity on his own — starting his own church — we’re not quite sure.”

“I am led to believe that the real reason he has come off the road is because he wants to reconnect with his faith and he may be even planning to start his own church,” Wilkins continued.

Bieber fans who were holding concert tickets will be reimbursed.

“And to those [who] won’t be able to see it … on behalf of myself, Justin, and the team, we are sorry,” Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun wrote in an Instagram post. “That was never our intent. But a man’s soul and well-being I truly care about came first, and we must all respect and honor that.”

His team also issued this statement: “He is grateful and honored to have shared that [musical] experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run. However, after careful consideration, he has decided he will not be performing any further dates.”

On July 10, Bieber himself shared this caption in an Instagram post: “The devil has no power when you know the LIVING God! His name is JESUS!! Why worry when you can worship.”

Back in June, Bieber performed in Manchester, England, at an event to raise funds for victims of the terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in May. “God is in the midst. No matter what is happening in the world, God is in the midst and He loves you and He is here for you,” Bieber said at the time.

Meanwhile, in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night, Bieber was apparently involved in a car accident: The Beverly Hills Police Department said Bieber “struck a paparazzo with his truck while trying to drive away from an event,” as reported by CNN. “No citations were issued and no other vehicles were involved.” A 57-year-old man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

“The accident happened near the Saban Theatre, which was holding a City Church service,” as CNN noted.
