Many Christians drink coffee or have other food during services on Sundays — but Catholics do not.

Father Mike Schmitz, chaplain for Newman Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota Duluth, discusses why Catholics don’t drink coffee or other food items an hour or less before Mass.

“Leaving our coffee cups outside — it’s for a far greater reason than just fasting for an hour before Communion. Fr. Mike reminds us that we all have a vital role to play in the Mass, and it’s probably more significant than any of us realized,” reads the video’s description.
