The head of the Catholic Church told Christians they should not be turning to horoscopes for direction.

“A Christian does not read the horoscope to foresee the future; a Christian does not consult a fortune-teller who looks into a crystal ball or reads your palm,” Pope Francis said earlier this week, during his last Santa Maria Mass before summer break.

“No, no! [A Christian] doesn’t know where he is going. He is guided,” Francis preached.

Christians should put their trust in the Lord and be open to surprises from God, the pope said, according to a report from Vatican Radio.

As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

“To be a Christian always implies this dimension of stripping oneself” of something, the pope said.

Christians should ask for God’s blessing throughout their journey of life, of course. “We are men and women who walk toward a promise,” said the pontiff.

During the Mass in the Pauline Chapel of the Apostolic Palace, Francis also called for older individuals to “grandparent” and be spiritual leaders for the younger generation.

“We are grandparents called to dream and give our dream to today’s youth: They need it,” Francis said, as the Catholic News Agency reported.

“And this is what the Lord today asks us: to be grandparents. To have the vitality to give to young people, because young people expect it from us,” Francis said.

Francis celebrated 25 years since his ordination as an auxiliary bishop in the Roman Catholic Church.

In September after his summer break, he’ll travel to Colombia.
