President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday in Israel. “This is a land filled with beauty, wonder, and the spirit of God,” Trump said at a joint press conference with Netanyahu. “I’ve been amazed by the glorious and beautiful monuments and holy sites and the generosity of your incredible people.”

“We want Israel to have peace.”

Trump visited the historic Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall on Monday. He was the first sitting United States president to pray at the Western Wall.

“I was deeply moved by my visit today to the Western Wall,” Trump said Monday. “Words fail to capture the experience. It will leave an impression on me forever.”

Trump also met on Monday with Reuven Rivlin, who holds the mostly ceremonial role of Israeli president.

“Today we reaffirm the unbreakable bond of friendship between Israel and the United States,” Trump added in his speech, as Netanyahu stood by his side.

Trump’s commitment to peace reaches beyond the Israeli borders. Over the weekend, he met with leaders of about 50 Muslim and Arab nations.

“I have just concluded a visit to Saudi Arabia where yesterday I met with King Salman and with the leaders from across the Muslim and Arab world,” Trump said earlier in the day after landing in Israel. “In that visit, we reached historic agreements to pursue greater and greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism and its evil ideology.”

On the next leg of his foreign travels, Trump will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday.

Trump and Abbas will “discuss ways to advance peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, as well as efforts to unlock the potential of the Palestinian economy,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said May 4 in a statement.

Trump will also visit Israel’s Holocaust museum to lay a wreath and deliver remarks.
